Defenders of the Earth DVD and Video Guide

The series Defenders of the Earth aired in the mid-1980s and was produced by Marvel. The show features class comic book heroes Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake and Lothar fighting against the evil Ming the Merciless, along with their children (Flash's son, Rick, Jedda's daughter Jedda, Lothar's son LJ and Mandrake's adopted son Kshin). The cartoon has one of the best theme songs, which has lyrics written by Marvel's Stan Lee.

When will DotE be released on DVD in the US?

There have been rumors that some episodes of Defenders will be part of a Flash Gordon DVD set. No release date has been announced and so far no word of a complete release of all 65 episodes of Defenders of the Earth on DVD. This is a show that started off very, very strong but lost a lot of steam (mainly because Marvel was so-o-o busy during this time period making dozens of series.) So a full release may be a long way away.

In the meantime, the entire series has been released on DVD in Australia and some episodes have been released on DVD in Europe. Some of the better episodes also have been released on video in the US
