Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DVD Guide

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started off an a popular indie comic book in the 1980s by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's Mirage Comics, and combining two of the most popular comic book topics of the time: mutants and ninjas. It's the story of four turtles (Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael), who come into contact with toxic goop that mutates them into part human/part turtle creatures. They are raised by an exiled part Rat ninja Master (Splinter) and trained in the martial arts. They battle crime, aliens and the evil Shredder.

In 1987, a cartoon series was produced by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson, starting off with a 5 part mini-series that expanded into a syndicated series. In 1990, CBS jumped on the TMNT cartoon bandwagon, but the violence was toned down in these episodes. The series continued until 1996 for a total of 193 episodes.

Random trivia: The dialogue for the first five episodes had to be rushed to be finished in time, since the voice actors were scheduled to go on strike and production would have to be shut down. Luckily, it was recorded in record time, in a marathon session that lasted right up to the minute that the strike began.

When will Volume 5 be released?

There is no definitive date for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vol 5 DVD, but it most likely will be released in December if they keep up the same release pattern.
